How do you get the cost of one bottle from a case price?
Divide the case price by the bottles in the case. For the cost of an ounce, divide that by the ounces in the bottle: about 25.4 in a 750 ml and about 33.8 in a liter.
It reads the invoice, you check the lines it flags.
Steps
- Read the pack size off the line: 6 or 12 to a case, 750 ml or liter.
- Divide the case price by the bottles per case.
- Divide the bottle cost by the ounces in the bottle.
- Multiply by your pour size for the cost of a pour.
- Divide the cost of the drink by its menu price for the pour cost.
For example, a 12-bottle case of 750 ml at $240 is $20 a bottle ($240 divided by 12) and about 79 cents an ounce ($20 divided by 25.36).
Two things change the math. A deal can change the real case price, so use what you paid. A deposit is not part of the cost, so take it off first.
